Having graduated from Sheridan College in 1995 Jay immediately established his own pottery studio in Stratford, Ontario. He has been exploring crystalline glaze for the last ten years, embracing the challenge of working with this complex, unpredictable and tricky glaze. The crystalline technique requires glazes bearing particles of zinc which, when fired, seed and grow into the beautiful crystal forms that decorate Jay’s hand thrown ceramic pieces. It is a similiar effect to frost forming on an icy window. During the firing process, the glaze moves and slides on the clay surface, puddling at the bottom.
Jay is affiliated with the Potters guild of Hamilton, the Fusion Ontario Clay and Glass Association and the Ontario Crafts Council. He has shown his work in Ontario for the last ten years at the Toronto Outdoor Show, the One of a Kind Show and other Ontario pottery exhbitions.
