My paintings are constructed slowly and deliberately by building layer upon layer of vibrant acrylic colour. This way of working, always adding incrementally, is a very female way of working and identifies closely with other forms of women’s cultural production such as rug hooking and weaving.
My approach to these different mediums is similar in the way areas are carefully developed with a concentration on form and shape, and an attentiveness to light and colour. The image emerges and builds in this way, simplifying details in the process, creating a balance of abstraction, representation and bold, saturated colour.
