"We have a great affinity for bears because of their powerful dual nature. Though they are one of the most powerful creatures on earth, they are gentle, curious and playful for the most part. Bears are iconic to the Canadian landscape, representing the wilderness that is integral to our country. Bears want what people ultimately want - to be well fed, to be safe and to procreate. Perhaps each bear sculpture is a self portrait of sorts."
