Orime No means folded or creased in Japanese. Each book or magazine is folded, creased or crumpled prior to being photographed in studio. The end result is a sculptural piece that is photographed and transformed into an abstract piece of art that’s a little bit unpredictable, whimsical and transformative.
"What excites me most about this collection is that I'm never quite sure what the final image will look like. Unlike my travel or landscape photography, where previsualization helps me build the foundations of the final image, the techniques I employ with the Orime No project is fluid. Some of the images are represented as they're photographed with only minimal post processing while others are manipulated further digitally to create the final image."
The Book Project is a personal project that sprang from Edith's love of books. She always thought books themselves would be excellent subjects for art. The challenge was finding ways to depict the books that was both visually interesting and maybe even a little bit whimsical.
Edith's photographs can be found in private collections across Canada, United States, Israel and Europe.
