Ewa Stryjnik is a Polish-Canadian artist based in Mississauga with a BFA in Painting from University of Waterloo and a MFA from York University. She has dedicated her passion in art to not only painting but also teaching others as a former art instructor at Art Gallery of Ontario and at Project Art Toronto which she also founded. Currently, she is an art educator at McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
Ewa's expressive abstract landscape paintings are inspired by her road trips to les-de-la-Madeleine and Gaspé, Côte-Nord-du-Saint-Laurent, Kegaska, Quebec and Labrador. Her paintings are visual representations of both her journey outwards to remote, isolated regions of northern Canada and of the inward journey of self-discovery and understanding.
"There is an enormous solitude when travelling the Canadian north. The joy of being present, here and now, in the sheer beauty and grandness of the untamed land."
Ewa begins her paintings with photos from her travels, gradually taking on a more intuitive process of layering colour combinations, impastos, glazes and printmaking techniques in order to convey the energy of her unique experiences and relationships to the land within the landscapes.
Ewa has been part of over 30 group exhibitions and 6 solo exhibitions in Canada and United States. Her most recent solo exhibition, "North Coast Travels: A Journey Inwards," was showcased at the University of Guelph - Humber Gallery in 2022.
