Gill Aysegul Birol was born in Istanbul, Turkey. She received her BA in applied fine arts from Marmara University. As an art director of her own multimedia company, Gill won numerous awards worldwide. Her ultimate passion as an artist was jewellery design, and this aspiration became reality after relocating to Boston, U.S.A. in 1997; Gill then moved to Toronto in 2001 where she found a creative oasis in the artistic community.
Gill combines the ancient and the contemporary to bring forth unique, wearable art forms. She works with a unique palette to create asymmetrical treasures combining sterling silver, semi precious stones, exotic spices with epoxy and polymer clay.
Her circle collection offers a relentlessly creative focus on organic hand-hammered textures and asymmetrical balance. Compelled by the beauty in imperfection, beginning with the circle, these pieces are ornamented with irregular freshwater pearls or semi-precious stones. Each necklace, bracelet, and earring shimmers with a relaxed sense of luxury.
“My creative style is constantly evolving… no two pieces are the same… discovering and working with new materials is my daily inspiration."
