This prayer has been adapted from the physician's oath and prayer of the 12th century philosopher, physician and Rabbi, Malonides. Two interlaced serpents evoke the "caduceus", traditional symbol of medicine. The bird represents compassion. The fish is the ancient symbol of life. The music is from Psalm 103 and is approximately 200 years old. The original Hebrew is from Jeremiah 30:17 and translates: "I will bring healing unto you."
