As a young boy growing up in North Bay, Ontario, Michael was allowed a lot of freedom to explore the world around him. He would spend hours walking through the woods around his home. Primarily self-taught, Michael has developed a love of woodworking, building tables, shelves and rustic furniture which he has been exploring for 25 years. Michael’s passion for wood and exploring the great outdoors has led him to carving burls into unique free form bowls and vessels. He has been a recreational wood worker for more than 25 years and has been carving burls for several years.
Each burl presents a new challenge, and he loves working with the irregular shape revealing intricate patterns and unexpected beauty within. His goal is to create art that reveals the soul of the tree. The warmth and beauty of each piece will draw you in to explore it further.
